My Military Career & Now
Growing up as the daughter of a soldier and granddaughter of a proud Korean war, combat veteran, joining the Canadian Armed Forces was my dream, since I was a little girl. While attending Algonquin College studying Police Foundations, I joined the Militia as a Military Police Reservist. After completing college and graduating from police training at the Canadian Forces Military Police Academy, I enjoyed five exciting years serving in the Army with the Military Police. I discovered a passion for photography early on in my career and set out to become a photojournalist in the Air Force in 2005. I attended the photojournalism school at the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering and excelled as an Imagery Technician for seven years. In 2007 I had the honour to represent the photography trade and was selected to appear in the Canadian Forces Imagery Technician recruiting video, sharing my experiences as a Military photojournalist. (watch here ) The highlight of my career was being selected to photograph the military's top brass due to my hard work, dedication to my craft, leadership style and bilinguism, at the National Defence Headquarters where I worked alongside Canada's highest ranking service members, The former Chief of Defence Staff, General Rick Hillier and the former Minister of National Defence, Peter McKay. I merited my Top Secret Government Security Clearance and honed my leadership skills. Serving in Afghanistan are experinces that I will never forget and have taught me many valuable lessons of sacrifice, pride and reminded me of how fortunate I am to be Canadian. I concluded my Military career as a bilingual photography instructor at Base Borden. My twelve years of dedicated service have made me the grateful,
compassionate, hard working and confident leader that I am today. After my late husband was killed in action while serving honourably on his third tour in Afghanistan, I decided to retire my combat boots and embark on another passion, fitness and health promotion. After graduating with honours from the Fitness & Health Promotion Program at Georgian College, I earned my personal training certification from Canada's gold standard in health sciences, The Canadian Society Of Exercise Physiology (CSEP). I continue to challenge myself to learn more about Fitness and Health through my volunteer work at the Chigamik Community Health Centre as a healthy living ambassador and am working towards furthering my education in Mental Health, specializing in the study of the effects of exercise on Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder (PTSD).
